Athlete's Foot

Athlete's foot is caused by a fungus called tinea pedis and can cause itching, stinging, burning, lesions and scaling of the foot and toes. It is closely related to other fungal infections, such as ringworm and jock itch.

Athlete's foot can be caused by wearing tight shoes that create a moist, warm area where the fungus thrives. Damp socks and shoes can also cause the condition. Athlete's foot is contagious and can be caused by contact with an infected person or contact with contaminated floors and other surfaces.
